About 400,000 million insect samples are on display in Asia's largest insect museum opened in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan.

The Insect Museum of West China in Dujiangyan city was opened to the public Wednesday.

The museum brings visitors into the world of insects with words, pictures and audio and video recordings, the People's Daily reported. Forty rare insect species are on display.

'According to international academic circles, the Insect Museum of West China is one of the largest resources for Chinese butterflies in the world, comprising over 95 percent of the butterfly species that have been discovered in China,' said Zhao Li, the curator of the museum.
